China National Petroleum Residual Oil Hydrogenation Technology Takes a New Step in R&D Application

Reporter on September 14 fromChina Oil Petrochemical Research Institute was informed that as of September 3, the PHR series residue hydrotreating catalyst developed independently by the Institute had successfully completed one cycle of operation in Dalian Petrochemical, and the industrial application test of residue hydrotreating technology for Russian crude oil was successfully completed, marking the success of China PetroleumResidual Oil Hydrogenation TechnologyR&D and application to a new level.

Russia is one of the important crude oil suppliers in China. The sulfur, nitrogen, residual carbon and metal content of Russian residual oil are all high, which cannot be processed directly into the catalytic cracking unit and needs to be hydrotreated by residual oil. For the first time, Dalian Petrochemical put forward higher requirements on the residual carbon value and metal content of the hydrotreated residue on the basis of the original plant design index, and added the nitrogen content control index of the hydrotreated residue for this industrial test. Through catalyst carrier preparation technology innovation, catalyst grade optimization and catalyst dense phase loading technology, the Petrochemical Institute fixed-bed residue hydrogenation technology innovation team overcame the technical problems of deep denitrogenation of Russian residue and deep conversion of residual carbon, and successfully developed the Russian crude oil residue hydroprocessing technology, and completed the catalyst production, loading and start-up instruction with high quality. During the industrial test operation, the team regularly evaluates and communicates with the plant technicians to ensure the stable operation of the plant.

The three indicators of stable operation days, cumulative processed feedstock and single ton of catalyst processed feedstock for this industrial application are 61%, 62% and 62% higher than the design value respectively, achieving ultra-long cycle time at full load and stable operation.

It is reported that the residue hydrogenation catalyst of Petrochemical Institute has been applied four times in Dalian West Pacific, Dalian Petrochemical and Taiwan CNPC, and the complete set of residue hydrogenation technology has been applied to the construction of two sets of 1.5 million tons/year residue hydrogenation units in Jinzhou Petrochemical and Jinxi Petrochemical, providing strong technical support for the high-quality development of the company’s refining and chemical business.
